Local Edge Showcase feat. Burning Hotels, Julien, Air Review, Menkena

BY Rania 13 January 2012 No Comments

I’m really excited about this Saturday’s big showcase at  Granada Theater. Not only are Burning Hotels my favorite local band, they are one of my favorite bands all together. I have seen them live about five times now since the beginning of 2011, and they’ve really grown up. Their 2011 self-titled album was a turning point for their success. Since that release, the band has received a lot of praise, including The Dallas Observer’s Music Award for Best Indie Act. The album has been mentioned by several popular radio stations including KXT and The Edge, and has gained popularity throughout the DFW area.

So why should you go see them live? For starters, they have so much energy when they are on stage, it’s too hard to not enjoy the show- plus like I mentioned already, the new album is freaking AWESOME! Mon-Julien is going to be a really interesting band to watch as well. With members from Tripping Daisy, Midlake, Black Tie Dynasty, and Polyphonic Spree, it’s going to be like watching our own local Demolished Thoughts — minus the cover songs.  Air Review is fantastic live too. I had the opportunity to see them open for Portugal. The Man in October, and the Spune Christmas Party  last month. I have not had the chance to see Menkena, but judging from their music which can be found on Spotify, they won’t be a disappointing act.

Have some dinner next door at the new Sundown restaurant, and head over to Granada afterwards for a great night. See you there!
